"How to squash a mathematical tomato", Rubic's cube-like surfaces and their connection to reversible computation

چکیده
Here we show how reversible computation processes, like Margolus diffusion[1], can be envisioned as physical turning operations on a 2dimensional rigid surface that is cut by a regular pattern of intersecting circles. We then briefly explore the design-space of these patterns, and report on the discovery of an interesting fractal subdivision of space by iterative circle packings. We devise two different ways for creating this fractal, both showing interesting properties, some resembling properties of the dragon curve. The patterns presented here can have interesting applications to the engineering of modular, kinetic, active surfaces.

Mathematical Modeling of Gas Adsorption Processes in Packed Bed: The Role of Numerical Methods on Computation Time
Rigorous mathematical modeling of adsorption processes in packed beds involves time-consuming computations which are considered as the fundamental weakness of such thorough mathematical models. Thus, reducing the computation time was a key factor in improving adsorption mathematical models. In order to achieve this goal, an attempt was made to know how much using different numerical methods inf...

متن کاملAnalysis of Chlorine Gas Incident Simulation and Dispersion Within a Complex and Populated Urban Area Via Computation Fluid Dynamics
In some instances, it is inevitable that large amounts of potentially hazardous chemicals like chlorine gas are stored and used in facilities in densely populated areas. In such cases, all safety issues must be carefully considered. To reach this goal, it is important to have accurate information concerning chlorine gas behaviors and how it is dispersed in dense urban areas. Furthermore, mainta...
متن کاملZero Knowledge with Rubik's Cubes
Since the invention of the Rubik’s cube by Ernö Rubik in 1974, similar puzzles have been produced, with various number of faces or stickers. We can use these toys to define several problems in computer science, such as go from one state of the puzzle to another one. In this paper, we will classify some of these problems based on the classic Rubik’s cube or on generalized Rubik’s Cube. And we wi...

What would the world be like if anyone with an Internet connection could easily use any interactive visualization technique to explore and present any publicly available data sets? Education would be revolutionized, policy making could be mostly data-driven, journalists could present facts to their audiences directly, and the general public could incorporate visualization into their daily decis...
